Looking for gifts for a friend or family member undergoing cancer treatment? Try these cool ideas.
Cancer is a battle that isn’t always easy to fight alone, and with so many treatment processes like surgery, radiation, therapy, and medications to shrink and obliterate its progression, a patient would surely be overwhelmed.
As a supportive friend, it’s important to occasionally inspire and motivate them to become hopeful that they would get better. Some of these methods would be better done with fun activities, gifts, and treats that would put a constant smile on their face. I prepared a list of 15 gift ideas with different intent, plus these are affordable and would come in very useful. For starters, here is a list of 5 simple gifts for stay home patients.
Simple Stay Home Gifts
After an in-depth study of what makes a cancer patient comfortable at hope. I prepared a few of the most recommended gifts that will better their indoor experience.
Applebees is a heck of a restaurant, if they find themselves near a branch, this gift card would pay for their orders. It’s as simple as it is, with no complications. Give it a try!
Cancer patients could sometimes get tired of staying at home. While you are away it would mean they have to hail a taxi under the hot sun or spend some money placing orders on their phones, help them save a few dollars with a prepared package gift card to cover their trips. Try getting above $80 as trips can be expensive these days.
Cancer patients can’t stand the cold sometimes so most doctors would recommend they grab a portable blanket for the road and one at home. For that purpose, I recommend these Warm Hugs blankets. It’s the most popular product for chemo patients so I am sure they heard about them already.
Help them make blended juice better with a portable and sharp bladed blender. Some useful equipment is, and affordable too. So, if you intend to get a blender while staying slim to a budget, then this is what you need.
Motivation is essential for them to believe and be hopeful. But how can you keep them motivated other than making them happy? Try getting this wall art that will catch their attention. Am sure it would do more than encourage, it would inspire them.
Keep Them Engaged with Entertainment Gifts
“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” A popular quote from the 14th Dalai Lama. This means to encourage them to keep on living, you have to encourage them to be happy and hopeful — what better way to do that than with entertainment gifts.
For my first gift, I recommend Nick’s Swedish Ice cream if they aren’t allergic to any of the ingredients. By the way, it’s super delicious and comes with 4 best-selling flavors to pick from, and for an instant pay for 3 ice creams, you could get $50 of each one.
Amazon Prime Subscription
What’s more useful than the gift of prime? Nothing really. With a gift like this, they would be encouraged to try out creative ideas, enjoy streaming HD Tv Shows and music, order clothes and accessories, and get unlimited access to the Amazon Kindle library. P.s, for the ones who love to read. Stay with them and encourage their effort to battle cancer with this great gift.
Not a very popular but very interesting product. With the Google Stadia Subscription, your friend would be encouraged to play and stream games across capable devices, by capable I mean devices that have the right processor speed to handle high-speed gaming.
Since a lot of medical practitioners recommend dried fruits like ginger, bananas, grapes, berries, and date fruit. I decided to add this basket full of beautiful flat fruit. I gave it a try and they are damn too delicious, so do them a favor and get this nut basket from Oh Nut.
Add the Orville Redenbacher’s Gourmet Popcorn Kernels to your basket. With this, they will enjoy the Amazon prime you gave while serving up popcorn from couch distance.

Deep Cleaning Service
Cleaning is always a demanding task for cancer patients, they need rest and should abstain from any activity that would involve contamination from germs, so try and help them out or get them some service. At least till the end of their chemotherapy sessions.
Health care is not only about providing the best, or most advanced treatment for patients; it’s also about encouraging people to take up good habits and to make their health a priority. Encourage them to learn a little by reading this best-selling book by Jane McLelland.
Creative Gift Ideas for Cancer Patients
Sometimes just getting items wrapped in shiny boxes isn’t as effective as expressing your love and care for cancer patients, and with you getting all worked up around trying to do your best, you could miss out on some important points.
For instance, did you know about chemo sweaters? Or how they are used? The fact is clear, even backed up by the American Cancer Society which recommends dressing in layers is the best for a chemo patient. I did my best to recommend some gift ideas as well as attend to a few popular questions and suggestions on “Gift Ideas for Cancer Patients”.
What Can I Do to Help?
Here’s my first answer to what you can do to help cancer patients? Try these:
Communication: Cancer patients have a long road ahead of them — from frequent treatment to emotional stress, one can burn out quickly. That’s why it’s vital to be able to communicate with them about their mental health. It’s important not to force him/her into isolation but to show them that communication is possible. Stay close and try to visit as often.
Pampering: Shower them with love, lots of it, and make them forget their sorrows with gestures that would like helping them cook, clean, work, do laundry, or just getting stuff done so they can have a great time. Remember that not all gifts are material but simple acts of kindness, love, and care.
Support and Encourage: Why let them journal in isolation when you can be there for them? Well, trying both isn’t a bad idea, if you have some time to spare, spend some quality time with them. Discuss and talk about activities from the past, and make plans for the future, they would feel encouraged about your hope for a better future. Don’t be discouraged to try a few times if they don’t let you in.
Gifts That They Would Like
Cancer is a disease that weakens their entire body, making them adapt to unfamiliar clothing, creams, tools, gadgets, and strange activities. For you to send acceptable gifts you should take a look at some of these useful items:
Comfortable Clothing: After a procedure, patients may need to stay in the hospital for days or weeks — but even when they get home, they may not feel like themselves. Comfortable clothes that can accommodate drainage tubes and bandages provide much-needed relief, and nursing staff says that receiving such presents makes recovering patients feel loved. Additionally, I also suggest getting some chemo sweaters, those are actually effective solutions.
Moisturizers: Moisturizers are an important part of the life of cancer patients, so while planning on getting one, you would need to go for specific product lines that produce specifically for them. Just Like the Hylunia brand. Hylunia has created an entire line of products that are perfect for cancer patients dealing with pain, itching, and dryness caused by their disease. The ingredients used in these products help restore skin to its natural state and promote healing. For a friend who is a patient, this could be a remedy for some of their problem.
Balm: Starting chemotherapy treatment can affect not just the psychology but the skin of the patients. In fact, a recent study published by the San Gallicano Dermatological Institute noted that some of the side effects of chemotherapy on the skin are extreme dryness and dehydration. In a nutshell, balms like Lindi Body Lotion, Bag Balm, Aveeno Skin Relief Intense Moisture Repair Cream, Botanical Burn Balm, and Recovery Skin Relief are the most recommended products by experts, this could be among some of your gifts for them, or if they are fixed on a certain product, try asking for their choice.
Journaling Materials: A journal is a crucial tool for self-growth and reflection. With a little self-awareness, a journal can have a huge impact on your life — giving you the motivation to do better and learn from your mistakes. Just by jutting down your thoughts, one can reflect and learn from their action. For cancer patients, it should do a lot better to motive and encourage them.
Essential Oils: Essential oils have been used for their health properties for hundreds of years. Research has suggested that essential oils can greatly benefit cancer treatment, and, as a result, a lot of cancer patients have been turning to these oils to help control the stress and pain associated with cancer treatment. Essential oils have also been known to help with pain, bloating, infection, stress relief, and more. It’s not much but should be a creative way of saying I care.
Outdoor Experience Are Priceless
There’s nothing quite like an unforgettable vacation — and there’s no better way to see the world than by traveling. When you’re planning a getaway, hitting the road can be an overwhelming experience (especially if you’ve never done it before). But don’t forget that an adventure always begins with a mystery. Try and get your cancer patient friend out of bed and on the road. And believe me, they would definitely like the experience!
What Cancer Patients Want you to Know
Check out these facts and decide what you know before sending a gift. P.s, they are from real-life experiences.
Don’t Compare: If your aunt, co-worker, or neighbor had the same type of cancer as your loved one, try not to bring it up. Cancer is complicated, and although there may be some similarities, no two people have the same emotional and physical experiences. Listen to what theirs is, and they’ll appreciate that.
Offer the Right Kind of Help: Let me know if I can do anything.” It sounds kind, but it puts the burden on your loved one to ask you. It’s better to make a concrete suggestion, such as, “Can I bring you dinner on Tuesday?” or “Want me to come to your next doctor visit? Call when you’re on the way to the grocery store and ask if you can pick up any items on their list. When someone has a serious illness like cancer, they might not want to ask for help but would love it if you stepped up without being asked.
Stay in the Picture: You might find the thought of cancer overwhelming, and that’s OK. Your loved one probably does, too. If you don’t know what to say, that’s also OK — they might not, either. A simple “I’m thinking of you” goes a long way, even if you don’t know what else to do. Send a card or an email. Talk about a book you read, a movie you saw, or a lunch you had with a mutual friend.Read reviews by Dr. Sabrina Felson, MD more on Web MD.
